During the first 11 weeks of the program, students will be introduced to the roles, responsibilities, and skills necessary to become an effective hospitality manager. During this phase students will participate in three foundational courses:
Role of the Hospitality Manager
This introductory course examines the core management functions within a hospitality organization which includes creating a welcoming environment for guests, ensuring efficient operations, and delivering a profit. Students will focus on the expectations of the hospitality manager in the context of hotel and restaurant operations as well as event planning while learning how to use various types of data as the basis for decision-making.
Hospitality Industry Overview
Students will learn about the many different types of hospitality facilities and properties along with the skills required to effectively manage each type A large portion of this unit will focus on sustainable operations including certifications, marketing advantages, conservation methods, and social impacts.
